Fusion-Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coated SSAW (Submerged Arc Welded) steel pipes are designed to provide corrosion protection for pipelines. The FBE coating is applied to the external surface of the steel pipe through a fusion-bonding process, creating a durable and protective layer. Here are key points about FBE coated SSAW steel pipes.

FBE Coated SSAW Steel Pipe

The production process for FBE epoxy powder anti-corrosion spiral steel pipes involves two main types of coatings: single layer and double layer. Specifically, when referring to FBE coating for spiral welded pipes, it typically means a single layer of fused epoxy coating. In this process, a specialized fused epoxy powder coating serves as the film-forming material, comprised of a thermosetting mixture of solid epoxy resin, curing agent, and various additives.

Production Sequence for FBE Coated Anticorrosion Spiral Steel Pipe:

- Preparation of Epoxy Powder Coating:

Solid epoxy resin, curing agent, and additives are mixed and ground to form the epoxy powder coating, which is thermosetting in nature.

- Surface Preparation of Spiral Steel Pipe (SSAW):

The spiral steel pipe undergoes shot blasting and preheating by medium frequency prior to the coating process.

- Application of Epoxy Powder Coating:

The heated surface of the steel pipe is sprayed with the epoxy powder coating. This application is carried out electrostatically, causing the coating to melt, bond to the steel pipe's surface, and solidify, forming a protective layer.

- Film-Forming Structure:

The FBE coating typically results in a one-time film-forming structure with a thickness ranging from 300 to 500 micrometers.

- Advantages of FBE Coating for SSAW Steel Pipes:

The FBE coating exhibits strong adhesion to steel, maintaining good membrane integrity. It also resists cathodic stripping, soil stress, and wear. However, it may have limitations in terms of resistance to mechanical damage, moisture, and heat.

- Application Range:

FBE coated SSAW steel pipes find application in external anti-corrosion for buried steel pipes or underwater pipeline facilities, particularly those operating within a temperature range of -30℃ to 100℃.

In addition, there is a double-layer epoxy powder anti-corrosion spiral steel pipe, employing a three-layer process involving epoxy powder coating, polyethylene (PE), and adhesive. This type of pipe is suitable for various pipeline applications, including those in the oil, natural gas, city gas, and water supply fields.
