API 5L X42 pipe has a minimum yield strength of 290 MPA, enabling it to operate in low to medium pressure pipes. These grades of pipe are superior to API 5L Grade B pipe in terms of chemical and mechanical properties. It has higher mechanical strength than API 5L Class B pipe and is therefore less susceptible to cracking. For industrial applications requiring higher strength pipes, customers prefer API 5L GR. X42 pipe replaces API 5L Class B.
It is a carbon steel pipe with extremely low carbon content. The alloy mixture for API 5L X42 pipe typically consists of manganese, phosphorus and sulfur. These elements increase the mechanical strength of the pipe. API 5L X42 Erw pipeline is a high-pressure natural gas pipeline with high temperature resistance, acid resistance and industrial waste resistance. It is particularly resistant to H2S or hydrogen sulfide corrosion.
This resistance to corrosion and the ability to operate under high-pressure conditions makes this pipe ideal for the petroleum, petrochemical, and oil and gas industries. Other applications for this pipe include the heating, chemical and paper industries. It is used to transport gases, vapors and liquids. There are two levels of differentiation of these conduits, PSL-1 and PSL-2. PSL-1 pipe does not require impact and non-destructive testing. As a result, PSL-2 pipe is typically free of cracks, arc burn, geometric deviations, hard areas, drips, leaks and other defects.
