ASTM A234 is the standard specification for steel pipe fittings suitable for use in moderate and high temperature environments, including carbon and alloy steel materials, covering both seamless and welded types of steel fittings. ASTM A234 includes wrought carbon steel and alloy steel fittings of seamless and welded construction covered by the latest revision of ASTM B16.9, B16.11, MSS-SP-79, MSS-SP-83, MSS-SP-95, and MSS -SP-97. etc. Today, we will introduce ASTM A234 pipe fittings in detail.
ASTM A234 Pipe Fittings Dimensions:
Standards: ANSI/ASME B16.9, B16.28, MSS-SP-43.
Outside diameter range: 1/2”to 48”
Thickness range: SCH 10, SCH 20, SCH 40, SCH STD, SCH 80, SCH XS, SCH 160, SCH XXS, etc.
The manufacturing types of steel pipe fittings are forged, threaded, butt welded, and seamless.
ASTM A234 Pipe Fittings Grade:
The ASTM A234 specification has many grades, such as WPB, WPC, WP5, WP9, WP11, WP12, WP22, WP91, etc.
Of these standards, WPB grade is the most commonly used material for medium and high temperature pipes. W means weldable, P means pressure, and B means b level, which refers to the minimum yield strength.
The source raw material of ASTM A234 WPB steel pipe fittings can be from steel pipes, such as ASTM A106 Gr.B and C. It can also come from steel plates, such as ASTM A285 Gr.C, ASTM A516 Gr 70, ASTM A572, etc.
ASTM A234 Chemical and Mechanical Properties of Pipe Fittings:
1) The maximum C of WPB grade pipe fittings made of steel pipes or plates is 0.35%.
2) Forgings: Carbon content maximum 0.35%, silicon content maximum 0.35%, no minimum requirements.
3) For every 0.01 decrease in carbon content, the maximum manganese content increases by 0.06%, and the maximum manganese content is 1.35%.
4) The total content of copper, nickel, niobium and molybdenum shall not exceed 1.00%.
5) Niobium + molybdenum shall not exceed 0.32%.

Tensile strength 60,000 pis 415 MPa
Yield strength 35,000 psi 240 MPa
Pressure level: 150LBS, 300LBS, 600LBS, 900LBS, 1500LBS, 2000LBS, 3000LBS to 9000LBS.
ASTM A234 includes seamless and welded pipe fittings.Seamless steel pipe fittings refer to pipe fitting raw materials made of seamless steel pipes and pipes; therefore, welded steel pipe fittings cover pipe fitting raw materials made of welded steel pipes. It should be noted that ASTM A234 specifications do not cover cast-welded fittings or fittings machined from castings.
