The construction of a steel sheet pile wharf involves the following key steps:

1. Pre-Construction Preparation

This stage involves various preparatory tasks such as fabricating, transporting, and stacking the steel sheet piles. The location, dimensions, and pile foundation requirements of the wharf are determined based on the design drawings. The construction site is cleaned, and the work area is organized to ensure a tidy and efficient environment.

2. Construction Process

a. Prefabrication of Sheet Piles: Steel sheet piles are fabricated and assembled according to the design specifications.
b. Transportation and Stacking: The prefabricated piles are transported to the site and positioned along the dock's axis, with piles spaced and stacked as required by regulations.
c. Piling Construction: A pile driver or vibrator is used to drive the sheet piles into the seabed or ground, forming a continuous wall. The pile heads are buried to a specified depth to ensure stability. Verticality and positioning of the piles are strictly monitored to maintain wall flatness and structural stability.
d. Deviation Correction: If deviations in pile alignment or verticality occur, they are corrected immediately to ensure construction accuracy.
e. Drainage Treatment: If the water depth is significant, drainage measures are implemented using submersible pumps or pump trucks to clear water from the construction area.
f. Pouring Pile Caps: Using hoisting equipment, the prefabricated bridge abutments are placed over the piles. The piles are reinforced, and concrete is poured according to design specifications to form the pile caps.
g. Prestressed Anchorage: Prestressed steel bars are set into the pile caps as per the design, and anchored to the ground or a concrete structure using special equipment, enhancing the pile cap's load-bearing capacity.
h. Pile Cap Construction: Once anchorage is complete, other structural elements of the pile cap, such as pipelines, guardrails, and anti-collision systems, are installed.
i. Filling Between Piles: The gaps between sheet piles or between pile caps are filled with materials such as sand or gravel. These materials are compacted during the process to increase dock stability.
j. Pile Head Treatment: The pile heads are treated to meet design standards, through cutting, sanding, or other finishing methods.
k. Completion and Acceptance: The completed wharf is inspected to ensure it meets design specifications and functional requirements.

3. Post-Construction Maintenance

Following construction, regular maintenance is performed to ensure the long-term stability and safety of the wharf.

Throughout the entire construction process, strict adherence to design and construction specifications is essential to ensure quality and safe operation of the wharf. The exact process may vary depending on specific design and site conditions.
